Subject: [dpdk-dev] [Bug 825] DPDK requires more than twice as much memory as requested
Date: Wed, 06 Oct 2021 11:12:27 +0000	[thread overview]
Message-ID: <bug-825-3@http.bugs.dpdk.org/> (raw)

https://bugs.dpdk.org/show_bug.cgi?id=825

            Bug ID: 825
Summary: DPDK requires more than twice as much memory as
                    requested
           Product: DPDK
           Version: 18.11
          Hardware: x86
                OS: Linux
            Status: UNCONFIRMED
          Severity: normal
          Priority: Normal
         Component: core
          Assignee: dev@dpdk.org
          Reporter: maaaah@mail.ru
  Target Milestone: ---

I am trying to allocate 32Gb memory via rte_calloc applying config changes
advised in https://bugs.dpdk.org/show_bug.cgi?id=608. I am using 1Gb hugepages.
However, in order to success, the system requires to reserve 66 pages which is
too much - we just don't have enough RAM on our production hosts.

Please advise.
