.config is attached (I called it edd_config).  

With latest 2.4-BK which includes your compile fix, compiling the kernel
with the attached .config, installing and attempting to boot the kernel
causes immediate reboot on my workstation.

Disabling EDD in the .config, recompiling and installing the kernel
makes it boot just fine.

My workstation is a P4 2.6GHz hyperthreading (with SMP in kernel
enabled), 1GB DDR400 RAM, the motherboard is an Intel D865GLC Desktop
Board, latest BIOS version BF86510A.86A.0049.P11 (I just updated the
BIOS to this and tried again just in case that made a difference).
