Subject: patch "usb: misc: uss720: Fix two sleep-in-atomic-context bugs" added to usb-linus
Date: Wed, 05 Sep 2018 14:47:51 +0200 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <153615167118539@kroah.com> (raw)
This is a note to let you know that I've just added the patch titled
usb: misc: uss720: Fix two sleep-in-atomic-context bugs
to my usb git tree which can be found at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gregkh/usb.git
in the usb-linus branch.
The patch will show up in the next release of the linux-next tree
(usually sometime within the next 24 hours during the week.)
The patch will hopefully also be merged in Linus's tree for the
next -rc kernel release.
If you have any questions about this process, please let me know.

Subject: usb: misc: uss720: Fix two sleep-in-atomic-context bugs
async_complete() in uss720.c is a completion handler function for the
USB driver. So it should not sleep, but it is can sleep according to the
function call paths (from bottom to top) in Linux-4.16.
[FUNC] set_1284_register(GFP_KERNEL)

./include/linux/parport.h, 474:

drivers/usb/misc/uss720.c, 116:
parport_generic_irq in async_complete
[FUNC] get_1284_register(GFP_KERNEL)
drivers/usb/misc/uss720.c, 382:

drivers/parport/ieee1284.c, 555:

parport_ieee1284_interrupt in parport_generic_irq
drivers/usb/misc/uss720.c, 116:
parport_generic_irq in async_complete
Note that [FUNC_PTR] means a function pointer call is used.
To fix these bugs, GFP_KERNEL is replaced with GFP_ATOMIC.
These bugs are found by my static analysis tool DSAC.
