Hi all,

The powerpc allyesconfig build (at least) still fails today.

Changes since 20110721:

The net tree lost a conflict.

The security-testing tree still has its build failure.

The trivial tree gained a conflict against the net tree.

The staging tree still has its build failure and gained a conflict
against the net tree.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" as mentioned in the FAQ on the wiki
(see below).

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log files
in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built with
a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig for x86_64. After the
final fixups (if any), it is also built with powerpc allnoconfig (32 and
64 bit), ppc44x_defconfig and allyesconfig (minus
CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES - this fails its final link) and i386, sparc
and sparc64 defconfig. These builds also have
CONFIG_ENABLE_WARN_DEPRECATED, CONFIG_ENABLE_MUST_CHECK and
CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO disabled when necessary.

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

We are up to 198 trees (counting Linus' and 28 trees of patches pending
for Linus' tree), more are welcome (even if they are currently empty).
Thanks to those who have contributed, and to those who haven't, please do.

Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.

Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds.

There is a wiki covering stuff to do with linux-next at
http://linux.f-seidel.de/linux-next/pmwiki/ . Thanks to Frank Seidel.

(similar to a report from July 16:)

linux-next-20110722/drivers/bcma/driver_pci.c:175: error: 'SSB_PCICORE_BFL_NOPCI' undeclared (first use in this function)

This build error happens whether CONFIG_PCI is enabled or disabled (unlike
what I stated on July 16).

Jan,

"x86: Unify rwsem assembly implementation" broke the UML build on i386.
Please compile test you changes or CC me when you are touch something in arch/um/.

make ARCH=um SUBARCH=i386
and
make ARCH=um SUBARCH=x86_64

does not hurt. :-)

Thanks,
//richard

rwsem.S can only be used with CONFIG_RWSEM_XCHGADD_ALGORITHM.

Huh, I've no idea why do we have such a mess with boardflags.

SPROM is board specific, not core specific. There is no such thing
like core-specific boardflags.

Currently we define boardflags in every driver that is doing to use them:
#define SSB_PCICORE_BFL_NOPCI		0x00000400 /* Board leaves PCI floating */

#define SSB_GIGE_BFL_ROBOSWITCH             0x0010

#define B43_BFL_BTCOEXIST		0x0001	/* implements Bluetooth coexistance */
#define B43_BFL_PACTRL			0x0002	/* GPIO 9 controlling the PA */
#define B43_BFL_AIRLINEMODE		0x0004	/* implements GPIO 13 radio
disable indication */
#define B43_BFL_RSSI			0x0008	/* software calculates nrssi slope. */
#define B43_BFL_ENETSPI			0x0010	/* has ephy roboswitch spi */
#define B43_BFL_XTAL_NOSLOW		0x0020	/* no slow clock available */
#define B43_BFL_CCKHIPWR		0x0040	/* can do high power CCK transmission */
#define B43_BFL_ENETADM			0x0080	/* has ADMtek switch */
#define B43_BFL_ENETVLAN		0x0100	/* can do vlan */
#define B43_BFL_AFTERBURNER		0x0200	/* supports Afterburner mode */
#define B43_BFL_NOPCI			0x0400	/* leaves PCI floating */
#define B43_BFL_FEM			0x0800	/* supports the Front End Module */
#define B43_BFL_EXTLNA			0x1000	/* has an external LNA */
#define B43_BFL_HGPA			0x2000	/* had high gain PA */
#define B43_BFL_BTCMOD			0x4000	/* BFL_BTCOEXIST is given in alternate GPIOs */
#define B43_BFL_ALTIQ			0x8000	/* alternate I/Q settings */

You can see we have them duplicated.

The real solution would be to move defines into one shared place (ssb).

um: Make rwsem.S depend on CONFIG_RWSEM_XCHGADD_ALGORITHM

rwsem.S can only be used with CONFIG_RWSEM_XCHGADD_ALGORITHM.
This unbreaks the UML build on i386.

John, if you are looking for a quick fix, I'd prefer to replace that
SSB_PCICORE_BFL_NOPCI with 0x400.

As I said, the real fix will change code in b43, gige, driver_pci, b43legacy.
