They are definitely used, I've recently added one user to my DT config, and there are other users in the DT configs already present in the kernel tree. Look for <&clks 201> for iMX6. -- FTTC broadband for 0.8mile line: now at 9.7Mbps down 460kbps up... slowly improving, and getting towards what was expected from it.
