As mentioned in the other thread, $(AS) should be checked as well since
it's possible that neither $(CC) nor $(LD) will involve $(CROSS_COMPILE),
like the combination of clang + ld.lld, whereas $(AS) will (currently)
always involve $(CROSS_COMPILE).
