Presumably because of

ifdef CONFIG_DEBUG_SECTION_MISMATCH
KBUILD_CFLAGS += -fno-inline-functions-called-once
endif

which I've been wanting to remove since its only true purpose seems to
be creating countless __always_inline patches...
