Hi,

Minor cleanup and some fixes for the watchdog used on all
Samsung SoCs.

The DTS patches should through samsung-soc tree but they depend
on introducing new compatible. The patches waiting for new compatible will be
deferred to next release.

Changes since v1:
=================
1. Add Guenter's review and Rob's ack.
2. Change compatible in patch 6/8 instead 3/8.

Best regards,
Krzysztof

* [PATCH v2 2/8] watchdog: s3c2410: Fix infinite interrupt in soft mode

Krzysztof Kozlowski, Javier Martinez Canillas, linux-watchdog,
	devicetree, linux-kernel, linux-arm-kernel, linux-samsung-soc

In soft (no-reboot) mode, the driver self-pings watchdog upon expiration
of an interrupt. However the interrupt itself was not cleared thus on
first hit, the system enters infinite interrupt handling loop.

On Odroid U3 (Exynos4412), when booted with s3c2410_wdt.soft_noboot=1
argument the console is flooded:
	# killall -9 watchdog
	[ 60.523760] s3c2410-wdt 10060000.watchdog: watchdog timer expired (irq)
	[ 60.536744] s3c2410-wdt 10060000.watchdog: watchdog timer expired (irq)

Fix this by writing something to the WTCLRINT register to clear the
interrupt. The register WTCLRINT however appeared in S3C6410 so a new
watchdog quirk and flavor are needed.

* [PATCH v2 2/8] watchdog: s3c2410: Fix infinite interrupt in soft mode
@ 2017-03-11 17:25 ` Krzysztof Kozlowski

From: Krzysztof Kozlowski @ 2017-03-11 17:25 UTC (permalink / raw)
  To: linux-arm-kernel

The Exynos4412 has the same watchdog as newer SoCs (e.g. Exynos5250).
Just like the others, for working it requires additional steps in Power
Management Unit: unmasking the reset request and enabling the system
reset. Without these additional steps in PMU, the watchdog will not be
able to reset the system on expiration event.

Change the compatible of Exynos4412 watchdog device node to
samsung,exynos5250-wdt which includes the additional PMU steps.

This will also fix infinite watchdog interrupt in soft mode (lack of
interrupt clear) because it is also included in samsung,exynos5250-wdt.

* [PATCH v2 6/8] ARM: dts: exynos: Fix infinite interrupt in soft mode on Exynos4210 and Exynos5440

In soft (no-reboot) mode, the driver self-pings watchdog upon expiration
of an interrupt. The interrupt has to be cleared, because otherwise
system enters infinite interrupt handling loop.

Use a samsung,s3c6410-wdt compatible to select appropriate quirk for
clearing the watchdog interrupt.

Please first fix the driver w.r.t. infinite interrupt in soft mode
issue and only then enable it on more hardware. IOW this patch
should be placed after patch #7 in the series.

This is going to confuse people. How's about doing it cleanly
(by adding samsung,exynos4412-wdt compatible and convert existing
users to use instead)?

The soft-interrupt mode is not the default one so this should not
cause any issues by default but I got your point. Makes sense. The
pity is the timing. There wasn't much interest in the patchset (no
comments since 24 of Feb) so I merged it yesterday evening. Does it
brake any platform/board?

Krzysztof

I don't find usage of 5250 in Exynos4412 DTS as confusing because
since long time I do not threat these numbers as having any meaning
(e.g. 3250 is newer...). Yes, we can duplicate the compatible for that
purpose. Care to send a patch for this?

Krzysztof

OK, let it be as it as it doesn't break the default setup.

However please consider the fact that posting revised patches
(v2 was posted *yesterday*) for a review and then merging them
the same day is not a good practice..

v2 was posted on March 11, not yesterday but I got the point that the
rest of world is working from Monday not Sunday. :) And v1 was on 24
of Feb. Usually I try to give them more time but recently there is so
less interest in this that I gave up waiting. I will give them more
time in the future.

Thanks for review!

I don't buy this argument. The point is not in the number itself
but in the fact that you as developer know than 3250 is newer than
4412 (the same way as you know that 5250 is also newer than 4412).
This convention is used for all Exynos bindings so please don't
break it.

I don't buy this argument. The point is not in the number itself
but in the fact that you as developer know than 3250 is newer than
4412 (the same way as you know that 5250 is also newer than 4412).
This convention is used for all Exynos bindings so please don't
break it.
