Maybe we should try a couple of things and see what we get. I don't have
a Windows environment I can use here so you will have to help.

I'm wondering why I need to double escape the $ after looking at your
debug log.

How about commenting out the line "gsub(/\$$/, "\\$", loc);" in
/etc/auto.smb and see what happens.
