[Xenomai] Rtnet driver of RTL8111/8168/8411

Hi,

just to confirm. I assume that if my box has this ethernet chipset:

Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet

the rt_r8169 doesn't work, although the linux module is r8169.

Is it correct?

And I'm saying this because although I'm using xenomai 2.6.4 (latest stable) 
and rtnet (git updated) when I load the module no rtethX interface is 
generated.

I think rt_8169 supports 8169 only. I added support for the chipset on my
Atom-based board to xenomai 3 rtnet. Do not remember which it was 81111 or
8168.

I've changed this driver and used successfully with some 8168/8111 network card.Hope this helps.

I think rt_8169 supports 8169 only. I added support for the chipset on my
Atom-based board to xenomai 3 rtnet. Do not remember which it was 81111 or
8168.

Thanks Gabriele,

It doesn't compile, so I don't know how updated is that driver.

I think that 8168 .... do you think that you will make a 8111 driver?

I use it with xenomai 2.6 and kernel 3.8.I guess some changes will be needed in order to use it with xenomai 3.x.

What I did to update the e1000e driver:

Find out on which mainline kernel driver version the old rtnet driver is based
upon. Compare the two to see what it involved to make the change.

It came down to what is described in this document:
https://gitlab.denx.de/Xenomai/xenomai/blob/master/kernel/drivers/net/doc/README.drvporting

Kompare that old mainline kernel driver to the latest version to see what has
been changed since then.

Decide if you would likely get a better end result 
by porting the newest mainline kernel driver to rtnet versus
upgrading the old rtnet driver version.

With the e1000e I choose to port the newest mainline kernel driver version to
rtnet.
