Fengguang, do you take this patch or should we take care of it by
queueing it through arm-soc?

Thanks, bye.

Let me know if you want me to take this through the metag tree.

Huh, "git git://"? That's twice and the protocol git:// already says
what kind of a repo this is.

This is redundant.

That's the required format, documented earlier in MAINTAINERS:

T: SCM tree type and location.
Type is one of: git, hg, quilt, stgit, topgit

Which is followed all other places, eg.

T: git git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/gregkh/tty.git
T: git https://github.com/Xilinx/linux-xlnx.git

Thanks,
Fengguang

I saw that it is, I'm just saying that "git git://" is redundant.

Right, and IMO it should be done something like the diff below.

The T: should contain the URL and if it is not clear from the URL
type, the *type* of the repository should be appended and not some
commands like "hg" or "quilt" or whatever. Especially if those commands
don't necessarily tell you what the repo is unless you know what the
executables' names mean.

That's all right for humans, however there are also in-tree and
out-of-tree scripts that parse the MAINTAINERS file and depend on
the current format.

So isn't it better to change the several lines for EDAC than to
convert hundreds of lines to the new format, plus converting the
related scripts?

Thanks,
Fengguang

Hmm, it doesn't say that in the T: description - I thought it was for
humans only. Besides, scripts can parse stuff in brackets too.

Not better - easier. I'm pointing out that this scheme is suboptimal.
Someone might read it and decide to fix it, who knows. :)

Thanks.

Thanks! The background is, the 0day patch test script relies on the
information in MAINTAINERS to decide which tree it can apply the LKML
patches to. So I need to add some missing git URLs to the MAINTAINERS
file.

Thanks,
Fengguang

Don't you also need the branch the patches should apply against, or am
I misunderstanding what you're trying to do?

Greg, that is necessary for the 0day email testing feature. After
adding the above information, when someone posted patch modifying the
listed kdbus files, the robot will know to apply the patch to your
char-misc/kdbus branch for testing.

Yes one option is to append the branch name in MAINTAINERS like this:

+T: git git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/kvms390/linux.git next

The other option is to get the branch name from linux-next, whose Next/Trees
file contains this line:

kvms390 git git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/kvms390/linux.git#next

Then the robot knows patches should be applied to the 'next' branch.

So for most trees, there is no need to specify the branch name in the
MAINTAINERS file. Not only it's not necessary, but also helps avoid
double configuration.

Fengguang

There is no char-misc/kdbus anymore, please do a 'git pull --prune' to
delete branches that get removed. And even if there was, that old
branch did have a MAINTAINERS entry in it...

Ah got it. Sorry, then this patch should be dropped.
