Yes. And we can make it conditional later in a development kernel, so that it's essentially only unconditional in a certain age of stable kernels.
Because in a year, the crazy VMware cpuid upgrade cycle will be a non-issue. But apparently it's something like "up to 9 months after release" until all of the cpuid but updates end up being visible.
