I looked into it, and Google Groups has the option under Group Settings > Email Options > Email footer > Include the standard Groups footer ...and it's a checkbox that's both grayed out, and selected. ... who builds this !$#%? I've filed feedback; hopefully we can get some clarification on that. Assuming the web UI files a bug for the feedback, I'll cc you on it when it gets created.
