Bugged ES1978 Maestro 2E (rev 10) ? make it works

Hi,
	I have an (old) laptop with an ESS Technology ES1978 Maestro 2E
	(rev 10), that seems to have an "STAC9721/23" inside (id =
	0x83847609).

	in the snd_ac97_mixer() function,  the ac97 driver test the
	AC97_REC_GAIN register by writing 0x8a06 on it, and if it read
	well the same value, it enable the AC97_SCAP_AUDIO.

	But, on my board, the last quartet of AC97_REC_GAIN, is always
	readen as 0, then when the AC97_REC_GAIN is tested, it return
	0x0a06 instead of 0x8a06, and the ac97 driver tell "(not audio
	or modem codec)", then no sound card.

	I simply added a test of 0x83847609 to |= 0x8000 to the test
	value, and all works fine.

Edirol UA-25

Hi,

what is the status regarding ALSA support for the new Edirol UA-25 ? 
The UA-5, which is the predecessor of UA-25 (and no longer available) 
is said to run perfectly with Linux. I heard that Edirol takes a lot of 
care to obey the USB audio specs, so perhaps it works out-of-the-box with 
ALSA ? It might be that the UA-25 uses USB 2.0. Would this pose any 
problem ?

If a device obeys the USB audio specs, Windows will use the standard
Microsoft USB Audio driver to handle it -- but this driver has (had)
quite a few restrictions in older Windows versions, so things like
higher sample rates or MIDI wouldn't be available.  Therefore, most
Edirol devices have an "Advanced Driver" switch to select between
standard-but-restricted and advanced-but-needs-special-driver modes.

ALSA will support the UA-25 in standard mode, but then the device has
only 16 bits at 44.1 kHz and (probably) no MIDI.

To support MIDI I need to take a look at the Windows driver to
determine the product ID and interface numbers.  (The driver isn't yet
on Edirol's driver page.)

To support advanced sample formats, somebody has to show the "lsusb -v"
output of the device so that a quirk entry can be added to the driver.

It doesn't, otherwise there would be no reason to disallow full duplex
at 96 kHz.

I think that the USB 2.0 support in the driver might work, and that
the problems with the two USB 2.0 devices known so far are caused by
something else.

Hi everybody !

Is there anybody who can use the new UA-25 ? I can use it, but only in simple 
mode, so only in 16/44, no MIDI, no DIgital IN...
Do you how could I use it in advanced mode ? 24/96, MIDI and Optical Link in 
this small box would be great !

It's supported in the CVS version of ALSA, or in the upcoming 1.0.7
release.
