This default X font vga.pcf uses 8x16 however. Now the font spacing *looks* too large because of the aspect ratio. Here we have a 720x400 window with an aspect ratio of 9:5 (1.8) instead of the fullscreen 4:3 (1.33). Too see what I mean, set $_X_bilin_filt = (on) (to filter out ugliness) and then press ctrl-alt-f. I'm not sure what to do about this.
