            Bug ID: 115141
Summary: radeon kernel module hangs suspend
           Product: Drivers
           Version: 2.5
Kernel Version: Linux hydra 4.5.0-040500-generic #201603140130 SMP Mon
                    Mar 14 05:32:22 UTC 2016 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64
                    GNU/Linux
          Hardware: x86-64
                OS: Linux
              Tree: Mainline
            Status: NEW
          Severity: high
          Priority: P1
         Component: Video(DRI - non Intel)
          Assignee: drivers_video-dri@kernel-bugs.osdl.org
          Reporter: paulo.miguel.dias@gmail.com
        Regression: No

the title says it all, the radeon module is making suspend hang. suspend never
awaks, needs a power reset.

i enabled pm_test:

echo freezer
echo freezer > /sys/power/pm_test
echo devices
echo devices > /sys/power/pm_test
echo platform
echo platform > /sys/power/pm_test
echo processors
echo processors > /sys/power/pm_test
echo core
echo core > /sys/power/pm_test
echo none
echo none > /sys/power/pm_test
sleep 1
echo dmesg output
dmesg > /home/groo/dmesg.txt
sleep 1
echo running suspend
sudo sh -c "sync && echo 1 > /sys/power/pm_trace && pm-suspend"

and the suspend never returns.

when taking a loot at dmesg_01.txt i get:

[ 2.310584] pci 0000:03:00.0: hash matches

which is the radeon hw:

03:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI] Venus
PRO [Radeon HD 8850M / R9 M265X] (rev ff)

so, i went to a tty, disabled X and removed the radeon module, and sure enough,
suspend and resume worked. so right after that i reloaded the radeon module,
tried suspend again, and again it crashed.

relevant dmesg below.

im using kernel 4.5.0 from ubuntu mainline
this also happens with 4.4.0 from xenial.

Blacklisting radeon makes suspend work. I use custom build kernel in Gentoo.
For me this is a regression from 4.4, where the same config worked.
Additionally (might be related?) in 4.5 external radeon card does not switch
off automatically when not used, I have now to
echo 'auto' > '/sys/bus/pci/devices/0000:01:00.0/power/control'
to turn it off.
BTW, When it is turned off, lspci shows:
# lspci -s 01:00 -v
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Advanced Micro Devices, Inc. [AMD/ATI]
Neptune XT [Radeon HD 8970M] (rev ff) (prog-if ff)
        !!! Unknown header type 7f
        Kernel driver in use: radeon
        Kernel modules: radeon

Kernel config

Config which worked with 4.4, processed by 'make oldconfig'.

commit f95429eccc570dc45d589c327bfcfddcdc3e8228. Reverting that makes suspend
work with 4.5.0.
