Subject: [Bug 156651] New: The 4.7 kernel will not boot with a GTX 970
Date: Tue, 13 Sep 2016 06:33:47 +0000 [thread overview]
Message-ID: <bug-156651-2300@https.bugzilla.kernel.org/> (raw)
https://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=156651
Bug ID: 156651
Summary: The 4.7 kernel will not boot with a GTX 970
Product: Drivers
Version: 2.5
Kernel Version: 4.7
Hardware: Intel
OS: Linux
Tree: Mainline
Status: NEW
Severity: blocking
Priority: P1
Component: Video(DRI - non Intel)
Assignee: drivers_video-dri@kernel-bugs.osdl.org
Reporter: tjjrx7@gmail.com
Regression: No
First off, I am fairly sure I am not filing this bug correctly, so I apologize
in advance.
The issue I have is that any time I try to boot using the 4.7 kernel, I
completely loose all video output.
Kernels 4.6, 4.5, and 4.4 all boot perfectly fine. But 4.7 just gives me a
black screen.
I have also tried several distros to include opensuse tumbleweed, fedora, and
arch. All distros give me the exact same result.
I can successfully boot kernel 4.7 if I use the nomodeset parameter.
I personally do not own another video card to test if other video cards work,
but I do have a friend who owns a GTX 760 that seems to work just fine. So I am
thinking that this may be either a problem with the GTX 900 series cards or
perhaps the 970 in particular.
And in case it matters, I am using display port out to a 1440p screen.
