I'm using my macbook pro 5.1 with Ubuntu OneIric
(it has two cards 9600GT and a 9400 card)
With nouveau.
I'm booting of the 9400 card though in efi. Disabling the 9600GT card.
If you just want to a working graphical environment maybe that would be a work
around until this has been fixed
