Actually, now that you make me check my journal logs (unfortunately the old computer is no longer with me).. It was using uhci_hcd indeed. https://www.intel.com/content/dam/doc/datasheet/i-o-controller-hub-7-datasheet.pdf#page=46 Not sure if due to some advanced switcheroo logic, or just out of luckily plugging it in inside the right port.
