Thanks, patch works. dmesg with the patch attached. Would be nice to get this
fix to stable.

Adding the missing firmware files works as well. Copied CAICOS_smc.bin from
latest linux-firmware git tree to /lib/firmware/radeon/, created new initramfs
with 'update-initramfs -u' and rebooted.
The vesa driver seems rather buggy. Switching to virtual consoles from X brough
up just dark screens with no way to get back without power cycles.
