Hmm.  Wouldn't "find a word (possibly after indentation), colon and
then either a non-colon or end of line" be sufficient and simpler?
iow, something like...

       "!^[ \t]*[A-Za-z_][A-Za-z_0-9]*:([^:]|$)"
