May be we shouldn't even stick to checking against the old_dbuf_state? I mean, this paradigm would work well only if we suppose that the last state doesn't change in the HW by itself, meanwhile now you have an old dbuf state, which might change in the HW. As I understand you try to readout hw and access dbuf object from dev_priv rightaway - can this also bring some sync issues? I think we were discussing at some point why we can't access global state objects from dev_priv rightaway, as those = constantly change.
