Yes, these changes are required for using efficiently the autosuspend feature
of runtime pm. We want to sample the data without turning the sensor on/off
each time. So if the sensor engine is already turned on, just read the sensor
data register. Without autosuspend it doesn't make sense, since the sensor are
turned off as soon as the data is read.
