I tried replacing it with:
      ifdef CONFIG_CC_IS_CLANG
            CFLAGS_UBSAN += $(call cc-option, -fno-sanitize-trap=bounds)
            CFLAGS_UBSAN += $(call cc-option, -fsanitize=bounds)
      else
            CFLAGS_UBSAN += $(call cc-option, -fsanitize=bounds)
      endif

The code traps.
