That is because I pass -O to make.
Without -O, I get:
$ make ARCH=x86_64 CROSS_COMPILE=x86_64-linux-gnu- O=../obj -j15
make[1]: Entering directory '/home/sfr/kernels/obj'

DESCEND objtool
