Hi all,

Changes since 20200110:

The vfs tree gained a conflict against the m68k tree.

The keys tree still had build failures so I used the version from
next-20191211. It also gained a conflict against the m68k tree.

The usb-gadget tree still had its conflict against Linus' tree, so I dropped
it for today.

The pidfd tree gained conflicts against the m68k, vfs and keys trees.

The generic-ioremap tree gained a conflict against the tegra tree.

The kunit-next tree lost its failures.

Non-merge commits (relative to Linus' tree): 7258
 7462 files changed, 345876 insertions(+), 165190 deletions(-)

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" and checkout or reset to the new
master.

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log
files in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built
with a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc, an allmodconfig for x86_64, a
multi_v7_defconfig for arm and a native build of tools/perf. After
the final fixups (if any), I do an x86_64 modules_install followed by
builds for x86_64 allnoconfig, powerpc allnoconfig (32 and 64 bit),
ppc44x_defconfig, allyesconfig and pseries_le_defconfig and i386, sparc
and sparc64 defconfig. And finally, a simple boot test of the powerpc
pseries_le_defconfig kernel in qemu (with and without kvm enabled).

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

I am currently merging 314 trees (counting Linus' and 78 trees of bug
fix patches pending for the current merge release).

Stats about the size of the tree over time can be seen at
http://neuling.org/linux-next-size.html .

Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.

Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds. And to Paul
Gortmaker for triage and bug fixes.

Cheers,
Stephen Rothwell

Hi Al,

Your "reimplement path_mountpoint() with less magic" commit is causing
oopses on the linux-next tests running on https://build.wireguard.com/ .
Here's one such crash with debug symbols:

Check if that persists with the version currently in #fixes (commit
7a955b7363b8). It ought to be fixed there; quick check is to look
at fs/namei.c:path_mountpoint() in your tree - it should read
	if (!err && (nd->flags & LOOKUP_RCU))
		err = unlazy_walk(nd);
not
	if (!err)
		err = unlazy_walk(nd);
as in the broken variant.

That does the trick. Glad that's sorted. Thanks.

Sorry, I missed that yesterday.

Caused by commit

  c032ace71c29 ("software node: add basic tests for property entries")

from the pm tree interacting with commit

  9fe124bf1b77 ("kunit: allow kunit to be loaded as a module")

from the kunit-next tree.

Yes, the problem seems to be that the property-entry-test is turned on
when CONFIG_KUNIT is y or m.

From drivers/base/test/Makefile:
...
obj-$(CONFIG_KUNIT) += property-entry-test.o

It seems we can fix it just by adding the missing MODULE_LICENSE, but
I think there is a bigger question of whether we should let people do
this. Do we want to just let people have their tests run whenever
CONFIG_KUNIT is enabled? I am inclined to think no. It should be
possible for people to run their test and their test only.

I agree completely, CONFIG_KUNIT is too big a switch I
think, aside from the merge issues caused here. I've posted
a patch which introduces a per-test-suite CONFIG option:
