ftp://ftp.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/people/akpm/patches/2.5/2.5.69/2.5.69-mm9/

. 2.5.69-mm9 is not for the timid. It includes extensive changes to the
  ext3 filesystem and the JBD layer. It withstood an hour of testing on my
  4-way, but it probably has a couple of holes still.

  The locking has been finegrained and sleeping locks have been removed -
  there are now no instances of lock_kernel(), lock_journal() or sleep_on()
  in JBD or ext3. ext3 is much quicker on SMP machines.

. The AIO patches have gone through another cycle. Mainly the addition of
  extensive commentary to quieten my perpetual whining.

. Several patches have been quietly upgraded (this often happens in -mm,
  but I don't changelog them).

. /proc/sys/vm/min_free_kbytes is here. It is like the old free_pages,
  only better.

. /sys/block/hda/queue/nr_requests is here. It allows the disk request
  queue depth to be set on-the-fly.

. Various fixes.

Changes since 2.5.68-mm8:

-sched-numa-warning-fix.patch
-acpi-irq-ret-fix.patch

 For noirqbalance commandline handling logic, perhaps.

+as-dont-clear-last_merge.patch
+cfq-dont-clear-last_merge.patch

 Sync these IO schedulers up with core API changes.

+per-queue-nr_requests.patch

 Allow the size of each disk queue to be set at runtime. Via
 /sys/block/hda/queue/nr_requests

+CONFIG_DEBUG_PAGEALLOC-extras.patch

 More work against the patch which unmaps freed pages from the kernel
 address space.

+s390-dirty-bit-cleaning.patch

 A hook for an s390 MMU strangeness.

+min_free_kbytes.patch

 /proc/sys/vm/min_free_kbytes

 This is a resurrection of the old free_pages tunable. It allows the
 sysadmin to increase the amount of free memory which the VM will maintain.
 It is mainly for specialised networking applications.

 But it can also be used for stresstesting the kernel: reduce it to
 something very small and check for OOM deadlocks, etc.

there seems to be no problem, it survives a kernel compile.
Only the patch for fs/buffer.c seems to be reverted, it was there in -mm8
(original patch by wli, adjusted to cleanly apply against -mm9)

It looks like he "silently" updated aio-06-bread_wq-fix.patch with an
additional fix, but it overwrote the existing diffs in that file.

Cheers,

Felt like tempting fate today...

Works nicely here on my 2-way. Survives make -j30 (on a machine without
nearly enough RAM for such foolishness) as well as a basic mysql
stress-test.

Well that is strange. The functions are there, inlined, in the right
place.

static inline unsigned int find_pcpusec(Elf_Ehdr *hdr,
					Elf_Shdr *sechdrs,
					const char *secstrings)
{
	return 0;
}
static inline void percpu_modcopy(void *pcpudst, const void *src,
				  unsigned long size)
{
	/* pcpusec should be 0, and size of that section should be 0. */
	BUG_ON(size != 0);
}
static inline void percpu_modfree(void *freeme)
{
}

It compiles OK here, uniproc and SMP. Possibly gcc-3.3 has done something
wrong, or differently.

Does your tree build OK with earlier compilers?

Note that in Ed's .config CONFIG_MODULE_UNLOAD is not set and the
missing functions are inside a big #ifdef CONFIG_MODULE_UNLOAD block...

It seems the following link error comes from Linus' tree:

<--  snip  -->

...
386/oprofile/built-in.o  net/built-in.o --end-group  -o .tmp_vmlinux1
...
net/built-in.o(.text+0x10b278): In function `r_start':
: undefined reference to `router_devlist'
net/built-in.o(.text+0x10b321): In function `r_next':
: undefined reference to `router_devlist'
make: *** [.tmp_vmlinux1] Error 1

<--  snip  -->

r_start and r_next are in net/wanrouter/wanproc.c.

OK, you have CONFIG_DEBUG_PAGEALLOC set. That's the patch which unmaps
pages from kernel virtual address space when they are freed.

That patch seems quite stable on uniprocessor at least - there are question
marks over its honesty on SMP.

I would be inclined to say that this is a hitherto undiscovered
use-after-free bug.

Good inclination.  See patch.

As far as I can tell, sock->stamp is only ever used for
SIOCGSTAMP, which probably doesn't need to be support for
these rpc sockets, but I guess it doesn't hurt..

NeilBrown

--------------------------------------------
Extract ->stamp from skb *before* freeing it in svcsock.c

As we sometime copy and free an skb, and sometime us it
in-place, we must be careful to extract information from
it *before* it might be freed, not after.

Does the following fix it?

My fault, will send a fix to DaveM shortly.
