I have the same problem with the touchpad on a dell inspiron 5000e,
Also having problems with Maestro 2E soundcard (ALSA).

There is also something weird going on with my pcmcia (CardBus TI PCI1225)
ethernet card (NE2000 compat),
but I have to look futher into it to tell for sure it isn't working.

Kernel was compiling just fine, and I was using module-init-tools
0.9.13-pre-1.

Hi,

a similar problem here on a Targa XP.

The wheel of the touchpad is on /dev/input/event0 and /dev/psaux
The touchpad and the regular buttons are on /dev/input/event1
This is kind of strange.

dmesg:
mice: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice
input: PC Speaker
i8042.c: Detected active multiplexing controller, rev 1.0.
serio: i8042 AUX0 port at 0x60,0x64 irq 12
Synaptics Touchpad, model: 1
 Firware: 4.1
 Sensor: 8
 new absolute packet format
input: Synaptics Synaptics TouchPad on isa0060/serio2
serio: i8042 AUX1 port at 0x60,0x64 irq 12
serio: i8042 AUX2 port at 0x60,0x64 irq 12
serio: i8042 AUX3 port at 0x60,0x64 irq 12
input: AT Set 2 keyboard on isa0060/serio0
serio: i8042 KBD port at 0x60,0x64 irq 1

and later on:

Synaptics driver lost sync at 1st byte
Synaptics driver lost sync at 1st byte
Synaptics driver lost sync at 1st byte
Synaptics driver lost sync at 1st byte
Synaptics driver resynced.

	Regards
		Oliver

Please look the older postings.
There is a new handling of Touchpad, as of 2.5.74.
Until the userspace programs (X w/o special driver,
gpm) are adapted, there is a workaround:
preferably compile mouse support as a module (called
'psmouse').
Load the module with a parameter 'modprobe psmouse
psmouse_noext=1' .
You could alternatively pass that parameter to your
kernel boot parameters (if psmouse is not a module).
These are under the 'options' part of LILO, for
example.

This workaround will enable the old PS/2 mode of the
touchpad and X will be able to read events from
'/dev/input/mice'.

ps. please remind the lkml about this. I'm not sending
from my regular address.
