It may be that the camera software itself is user space stuff, but it appears this is broken by the usb patches and the camera software never has a chance to connect because of it. So I rebooted to -pre5 to verify I still had partial access, but I didn't do a startx as that entails re-installs of the nvidia drivers to do so, so the startx logs below were obtained from a week ago's boot to -pre5. Booted to 2.4.22-pre5, I get a message in dmesg that the device is not claimed by any driver, which seems to be brought in when I startx, at which point the system logs show a rather extensive verbosity as the buffers are initialized. Booted to 2.4.22-pre6 as I am now, dmesg contains this: ---- Linux version 2.4.22-pre6 (root@coyote.coyote.den) (gcc version 3.2 20020903 (Red Hat Linux 8.0 3.2-7)) #2 Tue Jul 15 09:10:24 EDT 2003 [...] usb.c: registered new driver usbdevfs usb.c: registered new driver hub host/usb-uhci.c: $Revision: 1.275 $ time 09:12:36 Jul 15 2003 host/usb-uhci.c: High bandwidth mode enabled host/usb-uhci.c: USB UHCI at I/O 0xdc00, IRQ 11 host/usb-uhci.c: Detected 2 ports usb.c: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 1 hub.c: USB hub found hub.c: 2 ports detected host/usb-uhci.c: USB UHCI at I/O 0xe000, IRQ 11 host/usb-uhci.c: Detected 2 ports usb.c: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 2 hub.c: USB hub found hub.c: 2 ports detected host/usb-uhci.c: USB UHCI at I/O 0xe400, IRQ 11 host/usb-uhci.c: Detected 2 ports ieee1394: Host added: Node[00:1023] GUID[0050625600001065] [Linux OHCI-1394] usb.c: new USB bus registered, assigned bus number 3 hub.c: USB hub found hub.c: 2 ports detected host/usb-uhci.c: v1.275:USB Universal Host Controller Interface driver usb.c: registered new driver hiddev usb.c: registered new driver hid hid-core.c: v1.8.1 Andreas Gal, Vojtech Pavlik hid-core.c: USB HID support drivers usb.c: registered new driver usbscanner scanner.c: 0.4.13:USB Scanner Driver usb.c: registered new driver usblp printer.c: v0.11: USB Printer Device Class driver usb.c: registered new driver serial usbserial.c: USB Serial support registered for Generic usbserial.c: USB Serial Driver core v1.4 usbserial.c: USB Serial support registered for PL-2303 pl2303.c: Prolific PL2303 USB to serial adaptor driver v0.9 Initializing USB Mass Storage driver... usb.c: registered new driver usb-storage USB Mass Storage support registered. mice: PS/2 mouse device common for all mice [...] hub.c: new USB device 00:11.2-1, assigned address 2 input: USB HID v1.10 Mouse [Logitech USB-PS/2 Optical Mouse] on usb1:2.0 hub.c: new USB device 00:11.2-2, assigned address 3 printer.c: usblp0: USB Bidirectional printer dev 3 if 0 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x04B8 pid 0x0005 hub.c: new USB device 00:11.3-1, assigned address 2 hub.c: USB hub found hub.c: 4 ports detected hub.c: new USB device 00:11.3-2, assigned address 3 scanner.c: USB scanner device (0x04b8/0x010f) now attached to scanner0 hub.c: new USB device 00:11.3-1.1, assigned address 4 usbserial.c: PL-2303 converter detected usbserial.c: PL-2303 converter now attached to ttyUSB0 (or usb/tts/0 for devfs) hub.c: new USB device 00:11.3-1.2, assigned address 5 printer.c: usblp1: USB Bidirectional printer dev 5 if 0 alt 0 proto 2 vid 0x04B8 pid 0x0005 host/usb-uhci.c: ENXIO 80000280, flags 0, urb df814c40, burb df814bc0 hub.c: usb_hub_port_status (2) failed (err = -6) hub.c: connect-debounce failed, port 3 disabled host/usb-uhci.c: ENXIO 80000200, flags 0, urb df814c40, burb df814bc0 hub.c: cannot disable port 3 of hub 2 (err = -6) host/usb-uhci.c: ENXIO 80000280, flags 0, urb df814c40, burb df814bc0 hub.c: usb_hub_port_status (2) failed (err = -6) host/usb-uhci.c: ENXIO 80000280, flags 0, urb df814c40, burb df814bc0 hub.c: get_hub_status failed host/usb-uhci.c: ENXIO 80000280, flags 0, urb df814c40, burb df814bc0 hub.c: usb_hub_port_status (2) failed (err = -6) host/usb-uhci.c: ENXIO 80000280, flags 0, urb df814c40, burb df814bc0 hub.c: usb_hub_port_status (2) failed (err = -6) host/usb-uhci.c: ENXIO 80000280, flags 0, urb df814c40, burb df814bc0 hub.c: usb_hub_port_status (2) failed (err = -6) host/usb-uhci.c: ENXIO 80000280, flags 0, urb df814c40, burb df814bc0 hub.c: usb_hub_port_status (2) failed (err = -6) host/usb-uhci.c: ENXIO 80000280, flags 0, urb df814c40, burb df814bc0 hub.c: get_hub_status failed ---- Then, just to make sure the configs weren't changed: [root@coyote src]# cmp -l ./linux-2.4.22-pre5/.config ./linux/.config [root@coyote src]# So there was no difference in the .config's. It isn't of course, qcam-vc problems, but at least the usb is talking to it. At -pre6, its not. So I repeat, something in that -pre5 to -pre6 patching of the usb stuffs broke this.
