Dear list,

There appears to be a bug in pwc.o which causes it to handle a common
exception badly, makes it impossible to remove the module and could flood
the system logs with messages. After this error a reboot is required to
fix the system.

If the webcam is removed from the USB bus when the device is open from
userland the driver oops and remains locked with a usage count of 1
preventing it and the drivers under it from being removed. The driver then
produces a kernel message " pwc pwc_isoc_handler() called with status
-84 [CRC/Timeout]." with priority 7 several times a second. If this message
is logged then the logs can overflow.
This may be videodev rather than pwc...

The disconnect can occur if the camera is removed or the connection is flakey.

Sample kernel log:

The kernel taint comes from the use of the pwcx decompression driver and the nvidia opengl driver.

Using kernel 2.4.20-20.9.
