Then why have I been talking about a unification with you?

As to that, you have sections in the code marked "Do Not Change" and "Do Not 
Remove" - I checked the GPLv2 today (the one shipped with all versions of 
cdrecord I can find) and there is nothing in that which gives you the right 
to restrict what someone else does to your code.

Call it people being polite that nobody has removed that stuff from the 
existing primary port of cdrtools.

No. There is no Kernel bug in the SG_IO via /dev/hd* implementation.
While I can gloss over most other warnings, the following seem to be scare 
tactics to me:

cdrecord: Warning: Running on Linux-2.6.12-gentoo-r6
cdrecord: There are unsettled issues with Linux-2.5 and newer.
cdrecord: If you have unexpected problems, please try Linux-2.4 or Solaris.

Warning: Using badly designed ATAPI via /dev/hd* interface.

Since when is a function that doesn't handle a value returned not the source 
of a bug?

Show me the POSIX rules that say all fields returned by uname() have to have a 
certain fixed size.
