PCI transparent bridge

This report is FYI, filed because of the kernel message. Using the kernel
parameter seems to work fine.

On boot there is a message that says this:

Kernel:PCI: Transparent bridge - 0000:00:1e.0
Kernel:PCI: Bus #04 (-#07) is hidden behind transparent bridge #03 (-#04)
(try 'pci=assign-busses')

When I pass 'pci=assign-busses' to the kernel then the message is only this:

Kernel:PCI: Transparent bridge - 0000:00:1e.0

Keywords: pci transparent bridge

[1.] One line summary of the problem:
Problem
make utility exits with an Error 2 when making
linux-2.6.9-final.

[2.] Full description of the problem/report:
make seems to choke in the
"drivers/char/drm/gamma_drv.c" section during make
(output from make is attached at bottom).

[3.] Keywords (i.e., modules, networking, kernel):
modules, gamma driver

[4.] Kernel version (from /proc/version):
smollica@t42:/proc$ more /proc/version
Linux version 2.6.8-1-386 (joshk@trollwife) (gcc
version 3.3.5 (Debian 1:3.3.5-2)) #1 Thu Nov 25
04:24:08 UTC 2004

[5.] Output of Oops.. message (if applicable) with
symbolic information
     resolved (see Documentation/oops-tracing.txt)

[6.] A small shell script or example program which
triggers the
     problem (if possible)
Running make from the /usr/src/linux-2.6.9-final
directory.

[7.] Environment
Please note that I'm running make as su (maybe not a
good idea) and I'm not using a link to the kernel
source as /usr/src/linux.

[7.1.] Software (add the output of the ver_linux
script here)

t42:/usr/src/kernel-source-2.6.8/scripts# sh ver_linux
If some fields are empty or look unusual you may have
an old version.
Compare to the current minimal requirements in
Documentation/Changes.

This is my first bug reporting so sorry if I give you the wrong information...
and sorry for my english.

I have a CREATIVE CD-RW 8432 and I get an error when I try to use it aprox 10
minutes after I boot... I can't mount it, or record, etc. When I do dmesg I
get this over and over again:

hdc: lost interrupt
hdc: cdrom_pc_intr: The drive appears confused (ireason = 0x01)

I googled but I didn't find anything about this...

This is the output of ver_linux:

Scroll wheel on Mouseman+ mouse does not work with 2.6.0-test11. Works fine on
2.4.22 kernel.

Mouse movement works, only scroll wheel is affected. Tried an Intellimouse and
wheel works fine on both 2.4.22 and 2.6.0-test11. I did not see a kernel
config option that would affect this.

Hi,

Here's a bug report we had yesterday:
The machine was completely stopped, keyboard and mouse
were not active, we could ping the machine but no access to its files.
Only one solution: reboot the machine. We ' re looking for some
information about this crash. Thanks a lot if you can help us.
I send you a .txt file with all the kernel information and the last
lines in the log we had.
Thanks a lot.

Laurent.

ERROR - Attempting to write value for unconfigured variable

root@smilebef:/usr/src/linux#

The Problem is while configuring the Parallelport and saving the changes.

It's only by change 'PCI - Support'
Including the 'PCMCIA - Support'
In Section 'ParallelPort' (PCMCIA-Parallelport-Support)
You must set 'PC-Style' of 'm' to disabeln this error.
But i want PC = y and PCMCIA-Parallel = n.

I don't know what is it.
Think a failor in configuration script.

Danks

1. Newer kernels do not boot on 386

2. I use linux successfully since 1997. A year ago I've tried to use
linux on an AMD 5x86, and I realized that newer kernels (>2.4.13) do not
boot. It starts: "loading linux........" and then after a while it
reboots the computer, before "Ok, booting the kernel". I found the same
problem on a Cyrix 486SLC2 too. I tried compile kernels by myself, but
they did the same too, except for 2.4.13. The official Debian
kernel-images failed too. I use lilo-2.2, with debian 3.0 stable
(woody).

3. Kernel
4. Kernel version: > 2.4.13
5. No Oops..
6. No shell script
7. AMD 5x86, Cyrix 486SLC2 - 4MB RAM 800MB ide hd, 200MB swap, no PCI,

thanks for helping, regards

Hi all,

I found a bug that cause the kernel to lockup.

The problem is in mm/shmem.c do_shmem_file_read() (the tmpfs)

at line 959 there is a call to file_read_actor(desc, page, offset, nr);

The problem is that inside the function file_read_actor() desc->error is
set to -EFAULT (this happens when the buffer supplied by the user for the
read is wrong)
but there is no check right after the return from file_read_actor() to
test this situation.

The result is that the desc->count field always stay the same and the
while loop in do_shmem_file_read never end and the kernel locksup.

The fix is very simple just add the following line after the call to
file_read_actor():

-------------------
if(desc->error)
        break
-------------------

If you need any other info please mail me

Regards

[-- Attachment #1: Type: TEXT/PLAIN, Size: 1507 bytes --]

Summary
-------
System freezes when writing large amount of data to external buffer drive.

Full Description
----------------
I was created 4 large files on an externally mounted Hard Drive. Doing
this using the dd command. Each file is roughly about 600MB or so. After
doing this for a while, the system just hangs and doesn't do anything
else. I can't access the drive or do an 'ls' on them either. The light
on the drives is constany lit as well, which never happens unless error.

Kernel Version
--------------
We are using verions 2.4.19

Output
------
The only output would be to whatever comes out from what we're running.
We don't run a program with output, only in the background. So there is
no output when the systems hangs.

Example to Duplicate Problem
----------------------------
Just running several dd commands at the same times. I just put it in a
loop and ran the same command but change the output file name.

dd if=/dev/zero of=/buffer1/tmp.file$i bs=1k count=600000 &

thats basically it, except forthe loop that i executed 4 times.

Environment
-----------
I saved a script file to showsome of the setting on the environmen. It is
saved as an attachment.

The SCSI hard disk that we are using is: IBM-DDRS-34560-S97B cyl 8186 alt
2 hd 5 sec 218) and approx 4GB.

Please let me know if this is a bug or not....

1. Printing output corrupted using kernel 2.4.19.
2. Print output from three Linux servers corrupted. These servers are
running Samba 2.2.5, and are Slackware 8.0 or 8.1 systems. Print output
from Windows platforms, especially .pdf files, gets corrupted. Half
pages are printed. Pages are repeated, etc. Drop back to the 2.4.18
kernel, and the problem goes away. Kernel on all systems compiled
locally, e.g. on each system. Print daemon is from the LPRng package.
Printers include TCP/IP printers (LPRng redirect using printcap) and
those attached via parallel ports. Windows systems include XP, 2000,
and 98. Regardless of the OS, the printer output is corrupted w/ 2.4.19
kernel, but works fine when kernel 2.4.18 is run.

Hi,

I was not sure where to send this report so I hope it's correct.

Since Version 2.4.3 of the kernel I have been unable to use my scsi cdrom
drive. The adapter card is a Adaptec AHA-1542 and the CDROM drive a
Phillips CDD3600. When I try to mount the drive I get the following.

Vendor: Phillps Model:CD3600 CD-R/RW Rev 2.00
Type - CD-ROM ANSI SCSI Revision: 02
Detected scsi3-mmc drive: 2x6 writer cd/-w form2 cdda trgg
sr: ran out of mem for sectter pad
kernel panic : scsi_free : bad offset

Version 2.4.3 is the last version the above works on. Can you help?
