Hi all,

Changes since 20120904:

The net-next tree lost its build failure but gained another for which I
applied a patch. It also gained a conflict against the vfs tree.

I applied a supplied merge fix patch to the sound-asoc tree.

The spi-mb tree gained a conflict against the mmc tree.

The rcu tree gained a conflict against the tip tree.

The staging tree gained a build failure for which I disabled a driver.

The arm-soc tree lost a conflict.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the
old one. You should use "git fetch" as mentioned in the FAQ on the wiki
(see below).

You can see which trees have been included by looking in the Next/Trees
file in the source. There are also quilt-import.log and merge.log files
in the Next directory. Between each merge, the tree was built with
a ppc64_defconfig for powerpc and an allmodconfig for x86_64. After the
final fixups (if any), it is also built with powerpc allnoconfig (32 and
64 bit), ppc44x_defconfig and allyesconfig (minus
CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES - this fails its final link) and i386, sparc,
sparc64 and arm defconfig. These builds also have
CONFIG_ENABLE_WARN_DEPRECATED, CONFIG_ENABLE_MUST_CHECK and
CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO disabled when necessary.

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

We are up to 196 trees (counting Linus' and 26 trees of patches pending
for Linus' tree), more are welcome (even if they are currently empty).
Thanks to those who have contributed, and to those who haven't, please do.

Status of my local build tests will be at
http://kisskb.ellerman.id.au/linux-next . If maintainers want to give
advice about cross compilers/configs that work, we are always open to add
more builds.

Thanks to Randy Dunlap for doing many randconfig builds. And to Paul
Gortmaker for triage and bug fixes.

There is a wiki covering stuff to do with linux-next at
http://linux.f-seidel.de/linux-next/pmwiki/ . Thanks to Frank Seidel.

Somone already sent this. As ever please try to use subject lines
appropriate for the subsystem. Please also consider who you're CCing -
there's no need to copy -next on things like this which aren't
integration issues for example, if we start doing that then it'd get
drowned in noise from all the development.

Unfortunately the MAINTAINERS file does not tell me what to include
in the $subject line for the subsystem.
What would you like to see there, please? Maybe ASoC?

I have always done a reply-to-all for linux-next patches, so after
a few years someone days Don't Do That (IYO).

Agreed, many of us are already drowning from 1000+ emails per day.

git log --oneline sound/soc/codecs/wm0010.c

Label looks like "ASoC: wm0010:"... (ASoC kills my shift key, I would
like to see all labels lower-case).

Then maintainers should check compiler-warnings in their area - regularly?

$ grep warning: v3.6.0-rc4-next20120905-1-iniza-generic/deb-pkg.log |
grep 'sound/soc' | wc -l
10

I agree that breakage and regressions should be dealt with higher
priority... Such patches like this should be welcome, anyway.

As with every other subsystem in the kernel look at the log for the
thing your changing and do something that visually resembles it. If you
want get_maintainers to do this for you you'll need to write the code
(or convince someone else to do it).

I'm pretty sure I've mentioned this before... actually, if you're
relying on get_maintainers that's probably some of the false positives
too. If you've found an issue related to the -next integration that's
one thing but if you've just noticed a random thing in the kernel that
could be improved that's not really something about -next.

Hi all,

With master.kernel.org down, there is not much change from September 1
and the actual release will be delayed until master returns. I will
still do the overnight builds, though.

The powerpc allyesconfig build still fails today.

Changes since 20110901:

Dropped tree: mips (acidentally, sorry)

The slave-dma tree lost its conflict.

The l2-mtd tree lost its conflict.

I have still reverted the x86/spinlocks branch from the tip tree for
today.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have created today's linux-next tree at
git://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/next/linux-next.git
(patches at http://www.kernel.org/pub/linux/kernel/v2.6/next/ ). If you
are tracking the linux-next tree using git, you should not use "git pull"
to do so as that will try to merge the new linux-next release with the

CONFIG_PROFILE_ALL_BRANCHES - this fails its final link) and i386, sparc
and sparc64 defconfig. These builds also have
CONFIG_ENABLE_WARN_DEPRECATED, CONFIG_ENABLE_MUST_CHECK and
CONFIG_DEBUG_INFO disabled when necessary.

Below is a summary of the state of the merge.

We are up to 199 trees (counting Linus' and 27 trees of patches pending
for Linus' tree), more are welcome (even if they are currently empty).

There is a wiki covering stuff to do with linux-next at
http://linux.f-seidel.de/linux-next/pmwiki/ . Thanks to Frank Seidel.
