But schedule() is called _far_ more often than exit(). It would be
really good not to have to do that.

So you worry about concurrent wakeups vs setting TASK_DEAD and thereby
loosing it, right?

Would not something like:

	spin_lock_irq(&current->pi_lock);
	__set_current_state(TASK_DEAD);
	spin_unlock_irq(&current->pi_lock);

Not be race free and similarly expensive to the smp_mb() we have there
now?
