So any suggestion on how to implement this?

Maybe:

if (LINUX_VERSION_CODE < KERNEL_VERSION(4, 14, 0))
	check 4.14+ features
else if (LINUX_VERSION_CODE < KERNEL_VERSION(4, 9, 0))
	check 4.9+ features
else if (LINUX_VERSION_CODE < KERNEL_VERSION(4, 4, 0))
	check 4.4+ features
