Thanks for the comments. Although all your comments are valid, we will
not be able to apply your patch as is. This is because of the way we
have set up our source code (some of which is shared with non-GPL code).
We will submit a patch that addresses all the issues you've raised here.

We will apply your patch to ixgb_main.c as is.

Thanks,
Ganesh.

fair point, the solution for the later could be to use #ifndef __linux__
or something instead of #if 0

I don't think Adrian can claim copyright on code removal even if he
wanted to (which I doubt :))

I'm not sure whether Ganesh was really talking about license issues, or
whether the problem is that my patch #if 0's away code they use in other
non-GPL'ed drivers.

this sounds really bad.

Can you talk to the intel people in the ACPI group, they had a similar
issue before but were able to resolve it by a proper dual license
comment. It would be much preferable if people CAN do changes to the
entire driver... what's the point of having it open source otherwise ;)

Adrian:

Some of your suggestions are already part of the driver we are
currently testing. This was based partly on your Feb '05 patch. We
will not be able to apply your patch as is since some of the changes
are in part of code that is shared with other drivers that are not
GPLd.

ganesh.

This patch contains the following possible cleanups:
- make needlessly global code static
- remove the following unused global functions:
  - ixgb_ee.c: ixgb_get_ee_compatibility
  - ixgb_ee.c: ixgb_get_ee_init_ctrl_reg_1
  - ixgb_ee.c: ixgb_get_ee_init_ctrl_reg_2
  - ixgb_ee.c: ixgb_get_ee_subsystem_id
  - ixgb_ee.c: ixgb_get_ee_subvendor_id
  - ixgb_ee.c: ixgb_get_ee_vendor_id
  - ixgb_ee.c: ixgb_get_ee_swdpins_reg
  - ixgb_ee.c: ixgb_get_ee_d3_power
  - ixgb_ee.c: ixgb_get_ee_d0_power
