Hi Linus! Below you'll find regzbot's report about regression from this
cycle me or someone else told the bot about. Today with an extra from the department of “fixes are ready and in next for a while, but not mainlined”:

* Andrew afaics didn’t sent a revert[1] from Vlastimir your way that the latter ideally would have liked to see in -rc5[2] already [3], as it fixes a regression that bugs people in 6.1 (he just reminded me about it on IRC shortly after I had written this paragraph and expressed that he *really* would like to see it merged for rc6). There was some discussion this week about a proper solution[4], but the consensus afaics was to apply the revert, which spend quite some time in -next by now

* A fix[1] for a stack_depot/kmemleak issue is in next for a while already too[2]; Boris recently ran into this and bisected it again – this made me wonder if it would be good to get this fixed rather sooner than later before even more people waste time on this.

Apart from those it’s mostly business as usual afaics. Will and Waiman are busy debating a scheduler issue, but hopefully at some point will come to some agreement on how to fix it[1].

Hi, this is regzbot, the Linux kernel regression tracking bot.

Currently I'm aware of 11 regressions in linux-mainline. Find the
current status below and the latest on the web:

Bye bye, hope to see you soon for the next report.

Thanks for your attention, have a nice day!

Regzbot, your hard working Linux kernel regression tracking robot

P.S.: Wanna know more about regzbot or how to use it to track regressions
for your subsystem? Then check out the getting started guide or the
reference documentation:

https://gitlab.com/knurd42/regzbot/-/blob/main/docs/getting_started.md
https://gitlab.com/knurd42/regzbot/-/blob/main/docs/reference.md

The short version: if you see a regression report you want to see
tracked, just send a reply to the report where you Cc
regressions@lists.linux.dev with a line like this:

#regzbot introduced: v5.13..v5.14-rc1

If you want to fix a tracked regression, just do what is expected
anyway: add a 'Link:' tag with the url to the report, e.g.:

Ok, I applied this one as tiny and clear and hitting actual user loads.

This one I left alone, since it's a bit more involved and the use-case
is more esoteric too.

Leaving this alone too for now.

And in other news, the input regression revert you mentioned earlier
got pulled this morning.

Great, many thx!

Totally fine with me and yeah, a bit esoteric. But when somebody bisects
and report a problem (in this case: Boris) that already fixed in next
for a few days, my mind yells "what a waste or energy, this could have
been prevented by mainlining the fix a bit more quickly" -- that's why I
brought it up.

> And in other news, the input regression revert you mentioned earlier

Ahh, great.

BTW, there is one thing that still bugs me: every few weeks there is yet
somebody new[1] complaining about the removal of support for NTLM and
weaker authentication algorithms from cifs some time ago in
76a3c92ec9e0. The situation[2] was improved slightly in 2f6f19c7aaad
("cifs: fix regression in very old smb1 mounts"), but it seems some
users of Apple Time Capsules or some Epson printer/scanner still can't
access their devices which apparently still work fine in Windows and
macOS[1].

Yes, the issue is tricky, as there are security implications here and we
have nobody that tests this, as you pointed out [3]. Is there
nevertheless something somebody committed could do? Would we even be
willing to add that support back in, in case someone commits to maintain
and regularly test that codepath?

Ciao, Thorsten
