Essentially you need to rewrite as: timeri = snd_timer_instance_new(...); if (!timeri) no_memory_error; timeri->flags |= ...; timeri->ccallback = ...; .... err = snd_timer_open(timeri, ....); if (err < 0) error; thanks, Takashi
