Hi!

I did apt-get update/upgrade on Leste, and results are not good.

It still boots, but it looks like touchscreen is "rotated" 90 degrees
or so, so touches are registered at wrong places.

If someone knows how to fix that, let me know.

Best regards,
								Pavel

Hrm, I thought this problem was resolved now. Does the problem persist
after reboot?

Parazyd, any idea what's up here?

Cheers,

Aha, I only had partial update. elogind held some packages
back. I did explicit install of elogind and rebooted. Now I have black
screen in portrait mode, which has top overlayed with one icon. Not
good.

Any ideas would be welcome. But I guess it is "back up and re-install
with fresh image"...

Definitely not good.

Do you have usbnet access? You might just need to remove a few leftover
configuration files.

That said ...

there should be new images now.

Perhaps you'd be willing to test this version (I have not tested it yet!)

Do you have idea what files to remove? That might be easiest. I'm not
sure if I have usbnet, but I should be able to move sdcard to
different machine and modify it there.

It depends how desperate I am :-).

Yes, I'll use latest version if I'm forced to reinstall.

Make sure that this directory is empty:

/etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/

And check that these directories have their .leste and more importantly
their non- .leste files:

# ls /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/*.leste
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/40-ts.conf.leste
/usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/99-omap.conf.leste

That would be my first guess.

Cheers,
Merlijn

That one was empty.

But I don't have these. Let me try restoring from new .xz
image. .. aha, no, that would not be easy, as it is disk image, not
tar image.

Let me reflash and start from scratch...

xzcat maemo-leste-1.0-armhf-droid4-20201206.img.xz > /dev/sdb

Thanks for the help. I reflashed from the latest image, and things are
back to the working order.

I found default screen vibration way too annoying. I turned it
off... after reboot, it seems to have helped. But it still clicks
after touch, and I believe it "clicks" with the vibration motor.

On some "older" images, an `apt upgrade` isn't enough, and `apt
dist-upgrade` is preferred. I see that it was resolved though.

fwiw, I will soon also set up cpio archives that can just be extracted
on prepartitioned cards. We used to have tarballs of these, but for
different reasons they were unable to boot. With cpio, attrs and similar
things should be better preserved than tar(1).

Good to know.

There are "click" sounds for mouse click/touch and for keyboard key
press. You can change the vibration in Settings -> Display -> Touch
screen vibration, as you found out, and if you change to the silent
profile, you should no longer hear the clicks from the keyboard and mouse.

There should be a profile manager application in the Application
Manager, which you can use to edit each profile and turn off those sounds.

"Control Panel ProfilesX" is the name - install it and then go to:

Settings -> Control Panel ProfilesX -> General -> Edit -> Key Sounds -> Off
and do the same for "Touch screen sounds".

I think we have a less awkward program than "Control Panel ProfilesX"
now, which should also be available by default, but I don't remember, I
will dig into that and see.

Cheers,
Merlijn

Hi!

I'm dual booting between Leste and original ROM, and it is super
annoying... because Leste uses shift as control and capslock as shift.

Could we use shift as shift and capslock as control? That should make
keyboard behave more like original ROM and be less confusing
overall...

There is some precedent for putting control where capslock is today --
I use that setup on notebooks, sun did that (
https://deskthority.net/wiki/Sun_Type_3 ), and in fact original IBM PC
did, too: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:IBM_Model_F_XT.png

Hi!

I played with USB host and Maemo Leste, and it works with recently
packaged kernel:

devuan-droid4 5.10.4 #1 SMP PREEMPT Mon Jan 18 21:56:35 UTC 2021

USB devices are only detected when you plug them in. If you plug
dongle first, then device to the dongle, it does not work.

Mouse, keyboard and mass storage seems to work.

It is probably possible to charge the battery and use USB host at the
same time. Good.

DisplayLink and USB ethernet does not, as the modules are missing.

Could I get Leste to build neccessary modules? Turning phone into
usable desktop computer sounds like fun.

I'd need:

CONFIG_USB_NET_AX8817X=m
CONFIG_DRM_UDL=m

Thanks and best regards,
							Pavel

hmm, I thought usbnet was fine in Leste.

I will check this soon and add these modules. By the way, for -devel
I recently built 5.11, but I haven't changed anything in the kernel
config.
