Starting in 6.1, CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE checks the length parameter of
memcpy.  Unfortunately, it doesn't handle VLAs correctly:

From this definition of struct xfs_bui_log_format, we see that it has a
VLA at the end of the structure:

The error message tells us that the computed size is 16 bytes, which is
only enough bytes to reach the start of the VLA area.  48 bytes is the
size of the log item with a VLA length of 1.  We know the memcpy going
on here is correct because I've run all the log recovery tests with
KASAN turned on, and it does not detect actual memory misuse.

My first attempt to work around this problem was to cast the arguments
to memcpy to (char *).  Unfortunately, it turns out that gcc 11's
implementation of __builtin_object_size is smart enough to see through
the cast, so the error does not go away.

My second attempt changed the cast to a (void *), with the same results
as the first attempt.

My third attempt was to pass the void pointers directly into
xfs_bui_copy_format, but it turns out that gcc 11 inlines the function
into its caller, which means that __builtin_object_size sees the log
item (and not a void pointer) and the error does not go away.

My fourth attempt collapsed the _copy_format function into the callers
directly, which at least turned the fortify errors into compile-time
errors.  As a side effect, we drop 80 LOC, do all the recovered log
intent item validation before we start allocating things, and the error
reports now consistently tell us which filesystem experienced log
corruption.

This is the fifth attempt at fixing the problem, which fixes the problem
by creating a stupid helper function to extract the recovered log item
data from the recovery buffer that sets up the "unsafe" memory copy.  It
also sets up a memcpy_array helper to fix the complaints when we copy
log intent item data as part of relogging an log intent item.

From commit 54d9469bc515 ("fortify: Add run-time WARN for cross-field
memcpy()") which introduces this mess:

"However, one of the dynamic-sized destination cases is irritatingly
unable to be detected by the compiler: when using memcpy() to target a
composite struct member which contains a trailing flexible array struct.

I don't /quite/ think that turning off CONFIG_FORTIFY_SOURCE is the
right solution here, but in the meantime this is causing a lot of fstest
failures, and I really need to get back to fixing user reported data
corruption problems instead of dealing with gcc stupidity. :(
