Hi all,

As discussed in the previous meeting, let's have one meeting focused
on having a re-review of the code for the RFC.

We have a fair amount of new code coming in and I am preparing a few
things too, but it should still be fine by the original schedule [1],
so I propose Saturday 27th or Sunday 28th at 18:00 UTC like last time
(EU evening / US afternoon).

If all goes well, we should be able to send the RFC soon after -rc5.

Cheers,
Miguel

I will hopefully be able to make that -- the 27th is unusually busy
for a pandemic day for me :-)

Not sure what kind of a meeting, but my intention is to attent
and just listen. Hear what real programmers talk about.

Hi Miguel

Are people in this mailing list invited? Can you share the link here? I would like to join as well :)

Thanks

Yes, of course, everyone that wants to join is invited. The link is
shared privately to avoid anonymous/unknown/bot joins, but that's
about it.

Cheers,
Miguel

When to expect the invite? (When to start worrying "no invite for me???" ;-)

Are people without a Google account also welcome?

Will the invite like "Dear citizen of Troy, we made a beatifull horse
for you. Come to our site to download it." as a Microsoft Team invite?

I'm creating the event now.

I am not sure if it works without signing in. Please have a dummy
account ready just in case.

No extra software needed, only a browser (Chrome, Firefox, Edge...).

Cheers,
Miguel

Hi all,

Thanks all for joining!

Kaviraj: my apologies -- when someone new joins we do a round of
introductions at the beginning of the meeting, but this time we did it
at the end (but you had already left). If you join next meeting, I
will make sure we do the introductions first! :-)

Updated schedule:

  - We are still targeting the 5th for the RFC. We can delay a week if
we feel it is needed.

  - We will be adding a few things to the RFC:
+ Some of the PRs in the queue.
    + ppc64le support.
    + Binder & a couple rust/kernel/ pieces for it.
      * This does not necessarily mean Binder will go in the merge
window -- it is more to show in the RFC how an actual working module
looks like.
    + Move/split of "Rust example".
+ Kernel docs to be uploaded.
+ Unstable feature list to be updated.

Other topics & news discussed:

  - Wedson joined as a maintainer!

  - RFC:
+ The patches' split (preparation, Rust support, Binder).
+ Attribution, git-blame, kernel process, etc.

  - `alloc`:
+ We will likely end up with our own equivalent in the kernel, but
this is medium-term. For the RFC and likely for the merge, we go with
`alloc`.
+ Ideally, this work could inform the Rust allocator WG!

  - Locking: enforcing correct order/patterns (or at least disallowing
known-incorrect ones) via the type system or extra annotations.

Cheers,
Miguel
