Sorry for not being specific, yes it is built for ia32.

Thanks,

This may be an obvious question to some...: is this with a kernel
that is built for i386 (ia-32) and not for an Opteron?

The i386 code does not expect an IO APIC with max redirection
entries = 03, but the x86_64 code does expect/allow that.

Hello,

2.4.23 complains abount an unexpected IO-APIC (see that attached
dmesg-output).

The board is an Tyan Thunder K8S (S2880) with only one opteron cpu. Before I
just upgraded the bios to current version those messages didn't occur.

Please cc me since I'm not suscribed to this list.

Cheers,
	Bernd

You post the contents of /var/log/messages, including all of the
IO-APIC-related lines at least. The entire boot log wouldn't be
bad... and identify the Linux kernel version number, not the RH 9
version number, please.

Dear Reader

How do I go about reporting this unexpected IO-APIC? I am running RedHat
Linux 9 with the latest Kernel release.

Thanks

Hi,

We have 11 Supermicro 6023P-i Dual Xeon based servers(2.4GHz) with their
X5DPi-G2 motherboards.
These are running 2.4.20-18.7smp, 2.4.20-19.7smp and 2.4.20-20.7smp on top
of Red Hat 7.3.
The BIOS has been upgraded to 1.4c(latest on Supermicro's web site).

Hyperthreading is turned on and 4 processors are claimed in /proc/cpuinfo
and also shown by top.

However, whilst investigating why /proc/interrupts shows all interrupts on
CPU0, we noticed that
the following text was in dmesg:

>>IO APIC #2......
>>.... register #00: 02008000
>>....... : physical APIC id: 02

There is no BIOS setting for MP level. Turning ACPI off in the BIOS
does not change the situation with the unexpected IO-APIC being
found both with and without the noapic option to the kernel.
Full output from /var/log/kern.log attached.

Suggestions welcome??

Hello !

A newly set up 2.4.21 kernel wrote "An unexpected IO-APIC was found, ...".
The guilty computer is a P4 2.6 GHz on a Asus P4C800 motherboard, using
Intel 875 chipset.
SMP is turned on in order to use Hypertreading.

If you need further info, feel free to answer.

With best regads,
		Martin
