I am developing a new board based on the OMAP3530 processor. It is not
the Beagleboard, but similar.
Where do I start to begin making a U-boot bootloader for my custom
board?

I would suggest pulling the latest git u-boot source code and create a
new board directory under board/, basing it on board/ti/beagle.
