Hello all,

I've uploaded new data logging code against 2.4.20-pre10 to

ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mason/patches/data-logging/2.4.20

The mirror might take a little while to update.

This code is lightly tested, use with caution for a few days. The
journal relocation patches are not complete yet, I haven't integrated
them with the new options parsing code in 2.4.20-pre, so you can't pass
-o jdev= when mounting the FS.

Aside from merging into the latest kernel, there are a few bug fixes for
corner case oopsen hit during suse testing.

-chris

Hi Chris and all others,

I was so very glad to see your patches appear on the server that I
immediately needed to apply them. ;-)

At the moment I'm not very glad with the solution that "data=ordered"
specified in /etc/fstab on / partitions isn't supported any more. I
need to specify a rootflags append to my lilo.conf again to get this
mode like in the past. (In the same way I'm not glad with skipping
"data=ordered" as default mount option -- but...)

...After reading the README on your servers directory I saw the words
"beta" and "for testers" again so I should be more patient.

Thank you very much for your work,

Manuel

Hi !

Yesterday I added the 2.4.20-pre10 data-logging test results to

  http://manuel.krause.bei.t-online.de/topics/sw-tests.2.htm

The data-logging tests were performed in data=ordered mode. For all
these tests disk content remained the same.

Somehow 2.4.19-final was faster than everything that followed...

Best regards,

Manuel

What mirror? I haven't found any sites that mirror /pub/people.

I'd also appreciate a backport to 2.4.19.
Thanks,
John Dalbec

I always interpreted Chris' mirror statement as something related to his
connection to the SuSE server.

But, if you search for a mirror try the data-logging directory @

ftp://ftp.gwdg.de/pub/linux/suse/ftp.suse.com/people/mason/patches/data-logging/

That seems to be faster than the main SuSE server but I can't tell you
at the moment how up-to-date they are usually. I didn't check if the
suse.com site would provide more mirrors of that directory.

Bye,

Manuel

Does anyone know what kernel was used for the patches in
ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mason/patches/data-logging ? Are they against
2.4.19? The README doesn't say.

Thanks!

Yes, the main server seems to hit its 600-connection limit quite often.

They are against 2.4.19, but it is a slightly older set of patches.
They are good for benchmarking, but I would suggest using the 2.4.20-pre
patches for serious testing.

I'll try and upload the latest stuff against 2.4.19 today, this is what
the current suse kernel is based on, so it is by far the best tested of
the data logging series.

I would appreciate a pointer to the current 2.4.19 data logging patches. I
cant see anything recent at
ftp://ftp.suse.com/pub/people/mason/patches/data-logging

Are these patches against the new block allocator or the old? I had
thought that your data-logging patches were incompatible with the new
block allocator, but 2.4.20-pre seems to include it.
Thanks,
John Dalbec

Could you possibly provide a patch for that bug against 2.4.19?

TIA,
  Jeremy
