Hello,

I got in touch with GitHub people asking about in a way to setup a
mirror for OpenEmbedded (core, meta and bitbake) thus allowing for
easying forking and sharing of work.

Is someone against it?

Basically it is just a matter of someone of OE's staff setup the
organization account and I can ask for the mirrors to be setup by
guthub's staff.

This will make my life easier and probably others too.

Cheers,

Last I heard from Tom King this was still in progress / figuring out how
to get it done.

Very easy to do; I can setup the organization but I think that someone
of staff ought to do that. After that is just a matter of sending them
the list of repositories.

We now have a read-only mirror at github, see:

https://github.com/openembedded

Thanks to both the Toms for making this happen.

Any problems with the mirror, please let me know.

So is it preferred to place OE repositories on github.com in favor of
gitorious.org?

There is no "official" preference. We just setup the mirror on github
because people took the time to do so. If gitorious has the same feature
we could set it up there also for people that prefer gitorious.

We should update the docs on the website to explain creating a personal
github repo using the githib mirror feature, rather than jsut pushing
the repo back.

Another idea is to pull from the github repo and push to the OE repo.

Can someone comment on how the github repo is updates from the main OE repo?

Philip

Right now it's just synced every 10 minutes. When I get some more free
minutes I will try to make it a bit smarter than that, but I think it
should be good enough for most people as it stands.
