Hello,

i have a Technisat SkyStar HD2 DVB-S2 tv card and it is working rather
poorly on my Linux Ubuntu 11.04 system (Linux Kernel version 2.6.38 that
is shipped via the official Ubuntu repository)
Scanning for channels worked.
TV programs show up, but they're out of sync and audio shatters
extremely and runs jerky. Recording the TV program or just watching it
is a waste of time because of the above quality problems.
I tested several dvb player software like mplayer, xine, vlc, kaffeine
and totem (with dvb plugin) but all have the same problem.
On Windows this card works perfectly with the dvbviewer application.

On
http://linuxtv.org/wiki/index.php/Azurewave_AD_SP400_CI_%28VP-1041%
29#Identification

i found the following text:

> Note also that a different subsystem ID for a Skystar HD2 (1ae4:0003)
> has been reported for some cards at
> http://www.linuxtv.org/pipermail/linux-dvb/2008-July/027261.html so
> perhaps a change needs to be made to allow for this possibility too.

and i also read the additional mailinglist report:
http://www.linuxtv.org/pipermail/linux-dvb/2008-July/027261.html
http://www.linuxtv.org/pipermail/linux-dvb/2008-July/027279.html

And i can confirm that, what is in this report.
My Skystar HD2 has the ID (1ae4:0003) too.

**** Your system is too SLOW to play this! ****
           ************************************************

Possible reasons, problems, workarounds:
- Most common: broken/buggy _audio_ driver
  - Try -ao sdl or use the OSS emulation of ALSA.
  - Experiment with different values for -autosync, 30 is a good start.
- Slow video output
  - Try a different -vo driver (-vo help for a list) or try -framedrop!
- Slow CPU
  - Don't try to play a big DVD/DivX on a slow CPU! Try some of the
lavdopts,
    e.g. -vfm ffmpeg -lavdopts lowres=1:fast:skiploopfilter=all.
- Broken file
  - Try various combinations of -nobps -ni -forceidx -mc 0.
- Slow media (NFS/SMB mounts, DVD, VCD etc)
  - Try -cache 8192.
- Are you using -cache to play a non-interleaved AVI file?
  - Try -nocache.

Annotation:
On Windows my system is more than fast enough to even play HD TV
videostreams.

Does anyone know why the tv program runs so jerky on Linux with my TV
card?
Do you have any ideas to solve that?

Best Regards,
 Oliver C.
