Hi everybody,

Here's the second version of the Aptina MT9M032 sensor driver, originally
written by Martin Hostettler.

Compared to the first version, I've squashed two patches together that were
not supposed to be split in the first place and fixed a couple of 80-columns
checkpatch warnings.

The first patch is still Martin's original driver untouched for ease of
review. I can squash some of the other patches onto it if needed after review
is complete.

Patch 09/10 adds a generic PLL setup code for several Aptina sensors. I will
post a patch for the MT9P031 sensor driver to use that code separately from
this set.

I would still like to push the patches in time for v3.4. Martin, could you
please review the set ? Guennadi, to you have any MT9M032 hardware you can use
to test the driver ?

Laurent Pinchart (9):
  mt9m032: Reorder code into section and whitespace cleanups
  mt9m032: Make get/set format/crop operations consistent across
    drivers
  mt9m032: Use module_i2c_driver() macro
  mt9m032: Enclose to_dev() macro argument in brackets
  mt9m032: Pass an i2c_client pointer to the register read/write
    functions
  mt9m032: Put HFLIP and VFLIP controls in a cluster
  mt9m032: Remove unneeded register read
  v4l: Aptina-style sensor PLL support
  mt9m032: Use generic PLL setup code

From: Martin Hostettler <martin@neutronstar.dyndns.org>

The MT9M032 is a parallel 1.6MP sensor from Micron controlled through I2C.

The driver creates a V4L2 subdevice. It currently supports cropping, gain,
exposure and v/h flipping controls in monochrome mode with an
external pixel clock.

To make the macro safer to use, enclose its argument in brackets in the
macro's body.

HFLIP and VFLIP are often set together to rotate the image by 180°.
Putting the controls in a cluster makes sure they will always be applied
together, getting rid of a race condition that could result in one bad
frame.

There's not need to read register MT9M032_READ_MODE1 when setting up the
PLL. Remove the read call.

Compute the PLL parameters at runtime using the generic Aptina PLL
helper.

Remove the PLL parameters from platform data and pass the external clock
and desired internal clock frequencies instead.

Wouldn't it make sense to create another section for these to separate them
from the reset? This isn't audio decoder, processor nor mixer. :-)

This should be in another patch, shouldn't it?

I'd split this line as you've split the rest.

Can't p1 be equal to limits->p1_min?

What are typical values for p1_min and p1_max?

> +			if ((div * mf) % p1)
> +				continue;

I think you could calculate the valid iteration change for mf and avoid
extra time spent in the loop. You could swap the for loops which gives you
constant divider in the inner loop, which should be helpful.

Example (not fully tested nor thought out):

mf_min = ALIGN(p1, lcm(div, p1) / div)

mf += lcm(div, p1) / div

Same goes with clock values: now you can calculate which range of mf_min and
mf_max you need to check. Your inner loop becomes a simple check for p1_min
<= p1_max.

Is there no minimum for pix_clock?

You could make limits const and static.

Now that you're handling timing information in the sensor driver, including
blanking --- AFAIU, what would you think about implementing the new sensor
control interface for this one?

I'm not sure if a separate section is really needed. The option won't show up
during configuration, it will be selected automatically by other drivers. I'll
move it to the "Camera sensor devices" section anyway, as it's more logical to
group it with the sensor drivers.

The other lines were split to keep lines shorter than 81 columns. This one is
short enough.

Typical values are 1 and 128. As p1 should be even, it will never be equal to
p1_min. However, in the general case, it could, so I'll fix this. There's a
risk of inifinite loop if the caller sets p1_min to 0, so I'll add a check.

I've found a possible solution, that gets rid of the inner loop. See v3 :-)
