warthog>grep -r sign-file Makefile 
mod_sign_cmd = perl $(srctree)/scripts/sign-file $(CONFIG_MODULE_SIG_HASH) $(MODSECKEY) $(MODPUBKEY)

Because of that.  I need to remove the 'perl' bit.
