Wait a second. Gitk is a particular issue. Yum maintains Fedoras status
like "yum update, yum upgrade". All patches are coming to your box via "yum". 32-bit or 64-bit shouldn't be matter.

Boris.

I think it is actually rpm that is hanging.  Tried the following:

ps
aux|grep yum # kill off any running yum processes

ps aux|grep rpm # kill off any running rpm
processes

rm /var/lib/rpm/__*db

rpm –rebuilddb

but it
did not help.

The only difference between my setup and yours seems to be that
you are 64-bit and I am 32-bit, so I will give that a try.

Thanks,

yum just does not work on any of my fc11 installs. I am behind a lab
firewall, but normally after setting up the http_proxy settings, things
just work. Not sure what changed with fc11. After trying the things
mentioned below, I am sort of out of ideas at the moment.

Chris,

That got past the hang, which allowed me to hit this bug with fc11 yum:
"error cannot retrieve repository metadata repomd.xml for repository
fedora."

which has been fixed by:

http://digitizor.com/2009/06/17/how-to-fix-the-cannot-retrieve-repositor
y-metadata-repomd-xml-error-in-fedora-11/

Things are now working OK.

Thanks for the help,

Phil

Apologies if you've already tried this, but I haven't gone through this
thread in its entirety.

Have you tried setting your proxy in the /etc/yum.conf file? I always
have to append a line to the end, even though I set the http_proxy for
the rest of the system. I haven't tried it on FC11, though.

I have been trying for a couple of days to build the pvops kernel on
xen-3.4-testing.hg as per the instructions in Boris' blog entry
http://bderzhavets.blogspot.com/2009/06/setup-f11-pv-domu-at-xen-3.html
, but I keep hitting an error in the 'make tools' phase that a package
could not be located (always a different one - see below). Anyone else
seeing this. Any suggestions?

Thanks,

Phil

You might be also heart by wrong git behavior at pvops kernel git checkout
All what has to be done on F11 :-

# yum install gitk

OK. Phil

I did fresh F11 install and built the most recent Xen 3.4.1.

1. Installed everything except Virtualization Group.
2. yum install mercurial dev86
3. yum install gitk

I have installed FC11 on a machine that is behind a lab firewall with
http proxy to get outside. Yum has always worked for me in the past
with this setup, but now it is hanging:

[root@GreenCity01 ~]# yum search git

Loaded plugins: refresh-packagekit

Another suggestion, try to clone xen-unstable.hg and run:-

# make xen

# make tools

See what happens ?

Boris.
