colleague asked me for a list of OE/YP recipes for monitoring system
performance/resource utilization/profiling, i'm unaware of any single
list that tracks that sort of thing so i'll just ask what people are
aware of. just off the top of my head:
* sysstat
* atop
* collectd
* netdata
* rrdtool
* dstat
i'm going to stop there since that's just a sample list. what other
recipes should be added to that list that people find spectacularly
useful? thanks.

There is also bootchart (and friends) to gather information about
system startup and initialization.

a colleague is looking for an OE utility similar to red hat's
"sosreport", but AFAICT, that utility is purely red hat and i see no
reference to it at the OE layers page. does anyone know something
remotely similar to that? or is it just a red hat wrapper around a
bunch of other tools (which is what it looks like).

without putting any research into knowing precisely what these
utilities do, i put them into a list on a wiki page:
http://www.crashcourse.ca/wiki/index.php/OE_YP_performance_monitoring
given time, i'll add some commentary and break them into
sub-categories like user space, kernel space and so on. for now, i'll
just take more suggestions as to what should be on that list.

Sadly not :( The build system is based on autotools though. Most of
the 'heavy' features can be easily turned off using configure.

I think this list would be more useful on the Yocto Project wiki.
Thanks,

i'm not trying to claim this is an official YP list, i just wanted
somewhere to write the list for now and my habit is to put everything
on a wiki page. if someone wants to start another page, i have no
problem with that. the reason i typically use my own wiki is that i
frequently customize those pages for my courses, so they could end up
with content that's not relevant for YP.
